been putting together an alternate lower set-up for my newly aquired bushie M-4; this one

with a fixed A2 buttstock. every thing is lookin' good 'til i put the buttstock on the tube, and

attached the butt plate. whoa ! , the butt moves side to side maybe about .030 "....enough

to be really annoying . i got rid of this effect temporarily by wrapping the receiver extension

with two layers of electrical tape; stem to stern. this is okay for now, but anybody have a

a more permanent solution to this debacle ?!?! thanks !! hinking.gif

Spray the receiver extension with alumhyde, gunkoat, norrels, etc etc. to give it a slightly thicker profile.

*edit* this also works on CAR receiver extensions to take the side to side rattle away from m4 stocks.

you using the correct... ahem...... spacer?
Link Posted: 9/20/2005 5:04:37 PM EDT

ahoy ! the appropriate A2 spacer is firmly in place, and the upper screw is as tight as

you'd want to torque it.......also , we've got a really tight fit between the butt plate and butt

stock . i also checked the o.a. length of the receiver extension with that of my other two

AR's . it's OK. outside diameter of the tube is about .004" smaller than the others

i've got , but that's not enough to cause the problem . the butt itself fits a wee bit

sloppier on my other two weapons....although i can't measure it accurately because the interior

is too rough. thought about getting some .005 shim stock in sheet form and rolling an

insert to fit over the top of the receiver extension. maybe i can pick some up this week and

give it a try . if it's fastened properly i don't see why this wouldn't work .
