Why oh why is there this obsession with the inferior A1 rear sights ? I can understand in a retro context, but a detachable version ? Oh yeah, "they are more robust" . Do yourself a favor and use an A2 - its a fundamentally superior sight in all respects.

I have been using A1 sights for several years, don't really like the A2's. I am getting older and now have to wear glasses or use optics and want something that I am familier with for a back-up.My wife loves the A2 sights, It is just a preferance thing, Ronzo

I have one of the CNC carry handles.  I like it real well, the only things I have done to it are install an A2 aperature and replace the plastic knobs with metal ones from Bushmaster.  They are good, but not cheap.

You and I should start an A2 sight club.  We'd be in the minority here, and get flamed all the time!!!!!!!  It'd be great!

A1 sights are not inferior. The A2 sights exist to take advantage of the better ballistics with the 62gr bullets used in the A2. The trajectory is different requiring the sights to be redesigned to allow zeroing and POA/POI changes to match the ballistics.

I've been using M16A2 rifles for 23 years. I have never adjusted the rear sight more than the one click needed for proper zero procedures. The Marines wanted the sights adjustable to engage ranges out to 500 meters. The A2 sights allow this. A bunch of extra moving parts that are rarely used. The A2 aperature is a better aperature but the whole rear sight adjustment is not superior just different.

We did have to use a little Kentucky Elevation with A1 sights out to 300 meters. That just requires a little skill.

I also recommend swithing to an A2 sight aperature  for close range work.

Yeah, that's great.

How about an A1 sight with an A2 aperture? Best of both worlds! Especially in carbines.
