I purchased a Rapidex A1 sight replacement for an early A1 upper and I have a question concerning installation:  The kit came with only three components, the knob, a ball bearing and a roll-pin.  Is there anything missing in my kit?  Is this to be installed with any of the original components other than the detent spring?  When I installed the kit with only the spring, ballbearing and knob, it simply turns too easily.  In fact the entire assembly turns when I flip the aperture between the two settings.  Anyone advise what I did wrong?  Thanks in advance. hinking.gif

Sounds like the spring is too short, or the ball bearing fell out upon assembling. I don't think the rapidex uses a different size ball bearing as compared to an A2. You may have to get a longer spring from an A2 to make the Rapidex work with the A1 upper as the original A1 detent is longer than a ball bearing-hence maybe making the A1 spring shorter. I ordered three SGW kits in the eighties and opted for the Rapidex upgrade.  ALL the parts for the Rapidex sight were in a seperate bag and AFIR, the spring was in the bag.  AMOS

Yes, sounds like something wrong there.  Since you are taking it a part anyway, let me suggest that you swap out the rear sight blade for an A2 blade.  At the same time, install an A2 square front sight post.  Then sight in as per the "Santose IBZ", that is, zero at 50 yds with small hole.  Then just flip to large hole for 0-250 yds.

Thanks for the quick response.  I'll order a replacement A2 spring and the A2 aperture and front sight as well.  I suppose after thirty plus years, the original detent spring might have gotten just a wee bit short.  Thanks again.
