I am building a 2nd AR. I currently have a post-ban Bushmaster 16" Carbine. I was wondering whether you would build another 223 or a 9mm.

I'm building my 2nd AR right now and it is going to be a 9mm.

My third was a 9mm. If you have a 9mm pistol, no reason you shouldn't have a 9mm AR.

I used to think that 9mm AR's were a "questionable" concept. But I finally threw one together a few months ago and it is easily my favorite AR. Nice and quiet (16" bbl).  You can shoot them about anywhere.  I won't be using my semi-auto .223 AR much anymore as a result.

Not to be a critic or anything like that..

But why do people get 9mm Ar's?  cheaper bullets?

I have a 9mm  pistol

a 9mm  IMI UZI

a 9mm  H&K 94A3

a 9mm  Mac 10 open bolt Ingram

and 2 9mm  Colt LE6450's on the way ........

9mm is a great caliber for cheap plinking

I have a 20" rifle and a lightweight 16" with welded fs carbine in 5.56.  Since those bases are covered I think the logical next build will be in 9mm.  I've been eyeing that build for a few months now.  So my suggestion for AFS is to build a 20 incher before you build another carbine in 9mm.  Either way I am sure you won't be disappointed.

9mm is cheaper to shoot, 50 rounds for $3.86 at Academy Sports. You can shoot it indoors on the pistol range. When I had mine, Sten mags were cheap!

I just ordered a new Oly that will take factory Glock mags and it will hold open after the last shot.
Mags then can be used for my G17 and my carbine.
