Trying to get the wife into shooting, and I was thinking 9mm would be good for her. It's cheap and has lower recoil than 223.

Who makes a 9MM upper? A1 sights would be the best.

Check with Steve or Eric @ ADCO.

For a woman new to shooting, it isn't the recoil, as much as the muzzle blast that is intimidating.

Thanks David, I thought I was losing my mind when I shot an Oly 9mm and I swore it had as much kick (at least) as a 223.

I have a Kel-Tec sub 2000 in 9mm. It has more recoil than I expected, but certainly not as much as my AR in .223 does. The Kel-Tec is also much lighter than a standard AR, giving it more recoil than an AR would.

I've never fired a 9mm from an AR rifle, but lets look at the specs:

9mm Luger (AKA 9x19mm Parabellum)
Where used: Semi-automatic pistols, some revolvers
Bullet Weight: 115 JHP
Muzzle Velocity: 1160 fps
Muzzle Energy: 340 ft. lbs.

Here's some Q3131A (M193) ballistic data, of course your mileage may vary:
Altitude 1480 feet 70 degrees 50% humidity. 55gr FMJBT Average cD over velocities: .267
Range Velocity Energy Momentum Drop Bullet Path Time of Flight
(Yards) (Ft/Sec) (Ft/Lbs) (Lb-Sec) (inches) (inches) (Seconds)
0 3250.0 1289.70 0.79 0 -1.50 0.000000

The 9mm round has twice the weight, but 1/3 of the muzzle velocity and 1/4 of the muzzle energy. Does it really have anywhere near as much recoil?

Thanks for the points to 9mm uppers. I like the RRA 9mm upper. Who has the best price?

How well do they work in real life?

Are there feeding issues with Uzi mags? (It looks like they may need a slight modification?)

How is the adapter held into the mag well?
