No difference tween rifle or pistol from 80% federally, long as you make the pistol first.

What state? Unless in a ban state why an 80% lower, they cost more than a stripped lower.

Biggest attraction is to have one "off the books".

Why not FTF one then?

Been hard for me to find stripped lowers locally for sale, They're online but by the time you throw in FFL fee and shipping its way over $150, typically. Havent been able to catch the PSA blem ones yet. FTF here I havent seen any under 200. But I keep being able to find 80%'s around 80-90$ shipped, and can finish one on my mill in about 6 hours or so, and have more sense of ownership over it when finished because I did it myself. Plus its fun

ETA: For OP, Ive done 2 pistols off of 80% lowers.

Because it's still "on the books" to someone. Likely started life as a rifle too, if an investigation ever got that involved.

Whatever, just saying that's the main reason I see folks mention, choose your own tin foil comfort level I reckon. After all, except for pre-Brady vintage, ARs and AKs are about the only firearms you can reasonably do this sort of thing with, so your other modern ones are gonna be traceable to some extent anyway.

80% polymer lower build in 300 Blackout. Works great, no problems whatsoever.
