CP is making 25 round 7.62 mags.. http://ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=3&f=17&t=270323&page=1

Now I need to build one!

So the questions...

What are the specialized parts in such a build? I assume the barrel and bolt are the only two major differences..

And where can I get a barrel and bolt? M1S has a barrel but I'm leary of using such a thing...

This fella has some good stuf about building a 7.62x39 AR/M16

Click HERE, work your way to the 7.62x39 stuff.

Bump if anyone has any info where to get teh bolts..

DPMS makes all the parts necessary for the build. DPMS. All you need are the barrel, bolt and mag. I have one of the complete uppers and have had some light primer strikes with wolf ammo. I believe this is because of the primers that wolf uses. Other than that, its a fun rifle to shoot. Good luck.

Is there any place I can get the bolt complete less than $80?

Anyone use the Model 1 Sales barrel?

I have a 7.62x39 carbine with a Model 1 sales upper. I don't know if they sell the bolts seperately as I never asked. It runs like a raped ape. I use the 20 round franken mags as I the 30 rounders really stick out below the gun.

I've had no issues with the Model 1 sales 7.62x39 upper. Runs great. Accurate enough for hunting. Shoots 2-3 MOA.

I had this same issue and it turned out to be that there was NOT enough protrusion from the firing pin. I took the carrier apart and removes a slight bit of material from the rear of the FP shroud on the carrier so it would let the FP protrude a hair more.....no more trouble.

2-3 MOA is acceptable.. my AK shoots twice that!

Thanks guys, been a big help. Doing this for my dad mostly, he's one of those old farts that just has to have it in .30 cal.

Anyone else know where I can get a barrel? I'm a bit leary about using M1S.. posted a WTB for a 16" Colt barrel, but yeah.. have a feeling it'll be a long search.

I got mine from DPMS. They don't list a 16" (if I remember right) but they had one when I called.

I assume the DPMS barrel is NOT chrome lined? Not sure if I would swallow $240 for a barrel that is not chrome lined...

I think Oly may make one now that I recall.. need to download their catalog on my computer..

Thanks

Oly's standard 16" barrel runs $152 from them.. not sure what, if any, the additional charge is to get it in 7.62x39. In their catalog they don't list an extra charge, nor do they say anything about the twist rate.

I'll call them tomorow and find out....

Good luck finding a chrome lined 7.62 x 39 barrel.....I had a very hard time when I was looking...and never did find one.

DPMS also makes mags. They hold over 30 rounds.

Mine work just fine.

DPMS 7.62x39 mag sales are on indefinite hold and no longer sold by DPMS.

Model 1 Sales barrels are E.R. Shaw barrels and of good quality, just not chrome lined. I don't see chrome lining an issue for a truck/hunting gun or a recreational use gun. If you plan to put thousands of rounds a year through it, a chrome barrel will have a longer barrel life. the vast majority if not all, hunting rifles are not chrome lined.

Okay! Got off the phone with Oly Arms..

Their ARB16 16" barrel is $152, and the additional charge for 7.62x39 would be $54. They don't have any right now, and they are burried in orders is what the gentleman I talked to said...

Looks like I'll be getting an M1S barrel and bolt.

The Colt 7.62x39 barrels weren't chrome lined either, and they got a heck of a lot more for 'em

Wilson Combat makes barrels for DPMS, try them?
