Just for the sake of my own knowledge, is the carrier that is used with the 7.62x30 uppers the same as the carrier for the 223?  If so, can you simply add a 7.62x39 bolt to an AR-15 or M-16 carrier?

Thanks for any advise!

Yes and Yes.

Thanks!  I have an extra SP1 carrier and a rLL on transfer so if I find the right 7.62x39 upper I thought about adding one of these uppers to my collection...

There can be issues with 7.62x39 so look me up when you get going.  I can probably help.

Also, count on spending a little extra for the bolt.  They usually run around $50.

Go 5.45x39 instead of the 7.62x39.  The recoil is closer to the 5.56 Nato round, and you use the same 7.62x39 bolt.

Hell, just get the single bolt and both barrels.  This way, not matter what ammo you have, you have a MG for it.

It most assuredly does not use the same bolt.  The casehead on the 5.45 lies between 7.62x39 and 5.56 NATO.
