If you want something for mainly range fun stick with a regular AR your wallet will like you more. Where the 6.8 shines is for hunting in the brush. A nice small carbine for the brush is just the right medicine for deer or hog.

This is a little misleading, though I am sure it's unintentional. Kinda makes 6.8mm sound like .30-30. The big reason for 6.8mm is long-range power advantage over 5.56.. 6.8mm bullets are twice the (typical) weight of 5.56, and take the effective range to 2x-3x, especially in shorter barrels. |
