I am buying a barrel soon (likely a BHW .264LBC barrel) and they have an option of 1x8 or 1x9. AA sells theirs as 1x9, but I am interested in shooting 140gr bullets too.

Who's got experience with the two different twist rates and 130-140gr bullets?

1/8 will shoot them all, just saying.

I have found my Krieger match 1/8.5 shoots the 140 bullets 1/4 moa and my 1/9 grendal shoots the Hornady 123 amax just super also. The 140 I use is the Hornady BTHP match.

You would be well served by the 1:8 on that one if you go for the 140's. You'll be pleased with how it shoots.

What barrel length are you considering?

Alexander Arms uses different twist rates for different lengths with faster twist rates (1:7.5) for shorter barrels (16-18") and slower twist rates (1:8.75 & 1:9) for longer barrels (20-24") due to the velocity loss with the shorter tubes. I'd bet that no other maker has put more development into this cartridge.

I have a 20" 1:9 Shilen and have developed very accurate loads with some of the 107 to 123 grain bullets. I could never get the velocity I wanted with the 129/130 grain bullets so I never tried any loads with the 140s.

Have the BHW 264LBC 1-8. It is very accurate and am extremely happy with it. I have found the 123 AMAX shoots .6 with factory ammo. Have not worked up a load for heavier pills yet. Need to get work done first.

I would suggest the 1:8 twist rate in the BHW barrel...It will give you the versatility you need with the longer 140gr. class pills.

Our 6.5mm PCC BHW barrels are all 1:8 twist to give the best versatility and are very accurate over a wide range of loads.

BHW does make very good quality barrels for the price...So, you have made a really good choice to start with.

Good luck.

I use a 1/8 as well. Shoots 123's nicely.

Right now BHW is offering 20% off.

Is this for an AR platform rifle? How do you all get the 140s in the magazine? Broom handle?
