I bought this just for the rear sight with the "dimpled" screw. My intentions were to replace the repro dimpled screw on my early XM16E1 build.
But, I think I'm going to use the complete rear sight assembly on my 605 build that I'm finishing up.

What a damned shame though, the upper receiver looked to be in really good shape.

That's a crime. I have one of those uppers I found at a local gun store on Long Island about 15 years ago. Just found it recently buried in an old parts box.

I'll give ya a dollar and a tug job behind the dumpster for it!

Nice little treasure to dig out of the cobwebs!

John Norrell told me most of his rewelds with vintage rollmarks...
Never had a mag up the magwell

Sad to die a virgin.

I thought about buying some beater 603 machining the flat and weld up some clones.

I think someone here has done just that.

Don't remember who though.

Pretty sure John Brace has done just that.  If I find a beater 603 upper, that is an option.  I really would rather not do that to my nice 603 uppers that I have now.

I picked up this modified 603 upper on on the EE and built it into a dedicated .22 using a Spike's barrel.

Government waste is a fact of life. Look at all those Thompsons, Garands and 1911 .45s they buried on the Pacific Islands after the end of WW2 because they weren't worth the cost to ship them back home. Or the planes the Navy pushed over the sides of their carriers into the sea for the same reason. We've had a rash of presidents lately who fell for the old fairy tale that stockpiled US weapons eventually end up in the hands of terrorists and criminals if not destroyed. Forget the fact that such weapons go nowhere unless we're stupid enough to sell or give them to the wrong people. And in a true national emergency they would come in very handy to help defend the motherland. But instead they tell us these old M16A1s aren't going to be needed. We've got that new whiz-bang trillion-dollar F-35 to do that for us.
