After searching, comparing, and saving I finally decided on a 50 BMG upper. She arrived today and I am ecstatic. Its awesome. I bought the Ultralite50 Upper from www.Ultralite50.com with the 22 inch barrel. What a beautiful rifle. It took all of 3-4 minutes to change over my AR-15 lower and she fit like a glove.

I am a machinist by trade and am very impressed with its fit, and finish. Beautiful parkerizing and anodizing. Everything is better than I had hoped. Of course as always there is one negative that in fairness I must admit. I was so pleased I met several of my buddies after work to show it off, and we all decided to head to range tomorrow afternoon after work. Negative point is I bet that none of them bring a single round to shoot and my supply will dwindle rapidly with this bunch......Argggggg!!!

Here are pics I took today on the way to the range. Click on image to enlarge!!!

By the way it shot great and I love it. Definetly brought out a crowd of onlookers and a million questions. It was a big hit! (no pun intended).

I was just looking into buying one of these when I found this thread. How is the recoil say compared to a 12ga or the like ?? Also is there a reason you went with the 22" vs the 29" barrel ??

How accurate are these uppers?

Accuracy ? Please post a target pic. What lower does it use the standard AR or a 308?

Recoil was very manageable. I would say its much more of a "push" than a kick. I would say its close to my 3-1/2" 12 Ga Turkey gun. Reason i went with the 22 inch barrel is the portability, also I plan on using this rifle at shorter ranges. I am planning on buying the 29" also now that I have "checked out the 22". I love this gun. It is awesome.

Accuracy was good. I was using an SR-1 reduced 200 meter target at 100 yards. I mounted my scope (inexpensive one) and local gunsmith only had "normal" weaver rings. I was "itching" to try it out so I decided to order better rings (Burris Xtreme 6 screw) and I went ahead and mounted scope on cheap rings and headed out.

I started at 50 with bore sighting and got it in. Then I moved to 100 yards and adjusted first shot. Second and third shots were a clean 10 and a cut 10. No 10x but didn't get to try again as scope moved 1/4" in rings and shots went up 6" on next two rounds. Windage remained true but the elevation steadily moved with scope. No sense wasting more ammo until I re-mount scope with new rings.

I am confident the upper will hold MOA or better, only doubt I have is if "I" can hold MOA or better. The upper seems very accurate and once i get a few more rounds down range she'll hold and hit where I point her.......to that I am confident.

Nice. I see/read the scope riser is made of aluminum. Is the upper receiver made of aluminum or steel?

.338 Lapua in development too.

Receiver is steel with aluminum handguards.....very strong design. I am pleased with it.

Anyone else have one of these?
What kind of round counts?
What is the recoil like from the 18" barrel?

What are your thoughts on the stress the lower receives?
I don't think they were made for that kind of recoil.
I just want to make sure I don't regret a large purchase.

Thanks.

There are multiple 50 BMG uppers out there and they are tried and true.

I have a UL-50 21" barrel and the recoil is similar to a 12 gauge. The muzzle blast shakes you a bit. It has a super efficient brake like most 50s.

I am just now getting into reloading so don't know the accuracy capabilities. Surplus powder does not give you accuracy in these rifles and that's whats in many of the Talon and other <$4/round ammo.

I would expect 1.5-2 MOA with H50BMG and surplus AP and MOA with new bullets.

At this point there might be more 50 Uppers out there than complete 50 Rifles in civilian hands?????

ALS, the next on my list, wins and places in most of the matches. Its also an upper design with a 1 year backlog.

I have the 24" UL 50 with over 600 rounds though it. Still shoots great. Noproblems with the lower. Handloading with 750 grain amax's I have gotten 1 to 1.25 moa at 100yrds. Have shot it out to 1500 yards. Also one deer under its belt.

Would you mind posting your results to the Ultralite50 web forum. I was talking to Marcos and it would help!
