I got to thinking I might someday want to use my 16" 1:9 HBAR with Fusion 62gr or Gold Dot 64gr, for semi-long range hunting out to 250-300 yards, as here in New Mexico "any centerfire rifle" is acceptable for deer.  Mind, I wouldn't be going after the larger deer, I'd probably stick to the 150-200 lb-ers.
What I want to know from you guys, is do you think a 4-16x50 is overkill for 300 yards.  The scope looks HUGE on my rifle, but I like the magnification it offers, and the glass is pretty clear.  Am I just being a mall-ninja to want that much mag?

Any thoughts, guys :) ?

Cheers!

Doesn't sound unreasonable to me.  I have a Nightforce 3.5-15x56 NSX on my LRB M25.

I have a 4-14X44 on mine and really like it.  I generally leave it at 10X, but go to 14X for precision past 200 yards.  My OLD eyes really appreciate it.

Here's what I went with.
As far as the Green Mini Dot sight on top of the scope, I haven't actually tried shooting/zeroing it yet --- that will come tomorrow.
Anyways, here's a shot, for what it's worth

For hunting... you can dial it down to 4x and still find the animal.

SO the 16 is probably a little overkill then?  Is that what you're thinking?
