Hey all,
I just picked up three and a half cases of Federal XM193 that is packaged in brown boxes.  I see that midwayusa has a sale on ammo cans at the moment and want to know how many would be adequate to store 3.5K rounds in 20round boxes?

I would prefer to keep them in their 20round boxes, so how many ammo cans will I need?

Thanks

Standard 50cal can:   ammo stored in boxes... ~5-6 cans

Standard 50cal can:  ammo stored on stripper clips... ~3.5 cans

50cal SAW can:  ammo stored in boxes... ~4 cans

50cal SAW can:  ammo stored on clips...~2 cans

BTW...standard 50's are manageable w/ boxed and clipped ammo--50 SAW cans will get real heavy loaded to the max.

If you run out of cans to store it in, just send me the ammo - I've got four or five empty cans just asking to be filled.

Just in case you decide to store it loose in the cans...I purchased some loose XM193 and have it stored 1150 rds per 50 cal can (it would probably hold 1200). As for my 500 rd unopened cases, I put 4 cases (2000 rds) in the large 7.62 ammo cans.

Where can I buy these large 7.62 ammo cans?  I have one from my case of SA that still has SA in it, but if I could find empty ones I would buy a few.

Every time I go to a gun show I walked out with some ammo cans, if nothing else. I'm sure there are other sources but it would depend on your particular area. There is a seller on ebay that I buy the 50 cal and smaller cans from but for the large cans the shipping is too much to make economic sense.
