i understand that certain brands only take certain kind of mags, and that some brands have there own parts as well, could somebody clarify this for me? thanks

What's to clarify?  

Your statement is correct. There is no industry standard pattern for 308/7.62 ARs.

+1 on checking out the info.  Get a 308 that takes a 7.62 Pmag.  SR25/DPMS is the effective 308 mag standard at this point:  POF, GAP, KAC, LMT, Larue, DPMS, LWRC, etc.
