Can someone please explain these to me? How do they work? What are the advantages or disadvantages of these compared to the regular free floated tube? Do they split down the side like a standard A2 hanguard, if so why? A pic would be nice. thanks

I have a hogue gripper 2 piece. It is not split, but threaded in front of the rubber center section.

No need to unscrew/retorque entire tube from receiver to wipe down your barrel with a shaved front sight. (ie V-match ect.) Works pretty slick. Will also fit Dissipator models.

No. The first peice is usually only a couple of inches and acts as a barrel nut and the second peice of the tube screws onto the first.

Actually, the purpose is easy installation with a standard barrel nut wrench.

The ability to remove just the handguard section to clean the barrel is a secondary benefit.
