I'm new to the AR world and have a question or two about the 22 LR conversion uppers available (not the 'drop in' Ciener/Atcheson types).  Is the dedicated 22LR upper legal in Calif? I have read that because the 22 upper will fire 22 rimfire only it is technically by definition exempt from the AWB and not considered an assult rifle. Is this true? Did the sunsetting AWB open any doors in Calif for the 22 LR conversion or are the doors forever shut?  Need some clarification, please!
Great Board!

The uppers are legal in any case in CA.  If the lower is dedicated to .22 only and has been approved by the DoJ then that would legal too.
