Who makes the lightest A3 20" with chrome lined bbl?

OK, let me provide more information.... I am looking for a 20" rifle with full front sight, chrome lined bbl, std handguard, flat top. I am still not sold on the carry handle and maybe would like to save weight by putting on a folding rear sight. I would also like to have a post ban with some sort of brake so that I can protect the muzzle should it make ground contact. I need one that is light (less than 7.5#) Karl

Your best bet is probably to get a flat-top with 20" HBAR from Bushmaster, then have Kurt at KKF turn the barrel down to save weight. Kurt can install one of his brakes too.

why simply order a flat-top with 20" A2 gov. profiled barrel from BM. this upper is about the same weight as a 16" HBAR.

Because Bushmaster won't do that for post-ban rifles (and this person is obviously interested in a post ban rifle). Your best bet is to order the rifle from Gunsmoke (www.AR15.tv). They will build a rifle (using Bushmaster or RRA parts) and they usually have A2 (govt profile) chrome lined barrels in stock. They can convert them to post ban by using their 4 slot muzzle brake. A buddy of mine went this route and it looks & shoots great! And the 4 slot brake looks very similar to an A2 FS, with no annoying side blast like the Bushmaster brakes.

would fluting a std BM a3 work well enough to reduce the weight of the rifle to around 7.5 pounds? Karl

No, fluting will only get the rifle to 8.0lbs. It requires a reprofile job to get the rifle to 7.5 lbs.
