This may be a dumb question, but does anyone know what 1/2 x 28" threading amounts to as far as barrel diameter?

Looking to thread my AK-74 to this standard threading and wondering how much it would take off my barrel diameter.  Barrel diameter should be somewhere around .590" to .570".

1/2" is the outside diameter.

Ya typed it wrong

1/2" x 28

As previous poster said - o.d. is 1/2"

The 28 referes to the thread

Make sure you have something of a shoulder (larger than .5") behind the threads if it needs a washer or you will mount a sound suppressor. If you use a lock washer this needs to be at least .625", with a crush or peel washer it could be less.

The 28 means 28 threads per inch.

I was thinking of mounting a Rainier Arms XTC brake.  Does it need a lock washer?

Again my barrel OD is between .570" and .590" so it doesn't look like it would meet the requirement you specified.

I should add, though, that it's going to be pinned to meet the 16" requirement, so in that case would I need a washer?

It will need timed so you will need a crush washer, peel washer, or shims. I think the ID of those are about .525" so .57" should be enough of a shoulder.
