Did Colt include a sling with any SP1 rifles? What were they?

Black cotton is my guess, if Colt included a sling.

Thanks for the help!!!

My 1964 3 digit serial # SP1 came with a "model 01" type sling but it was black cotton so I would call it an "early SP1" sling. (the original 01 sling that came from Colt with the 01 rifles I'm told was green) This sling has a hook sewn on one one end and an adjusting slider on the other (thus can only be adjusted at the one end). Look at photos in "The Black Rifle" of early 60s AR15s (the model 01 M16) and you will see what I mean. Most military M16s in the 60s and 70's were fitted with a standard cotton M1/M14 sling.

KurtVF, Thank You for the reply. I have never seen a sling like this:

"This sling has a hook sewn on one one end and an adjusting slider on the other (thus can only be adjusted at the one end)"

Unfortunately I do not have the book to check it out, but it looks like am gonna have to get it!
Thanks Again

Most books or articles with photos of the very early issued M16s (I know Duff's book has such a photo) have photos of rifles with such slings (a replica can be made from a BAR sling) The first Colt rifles were apparenly delivered with accessories such as slings, and bayonets etc. until the usual military suppliers could gear up for full production. This is why most early COLT marked stuff is so rare (and expensive).
