I WANT TO SHOOT 270 YARDS OUT. AND WAS CONSISDERING A RRA 18" HEAVY BARREL. IS IT TO SHORT AND WILL IT LIMIT THE 223 CAPABILITY? THANX FOR THE INFO!

No it is not to short. It will sacrafice a little velocity, but should not be enough to make a significant differance.

I've had good performance out to the mid 400s' with mine. 50 gr Nosler balitsic Tips.

Turn off your cap lock, it is hard to read and considered yelling.

You have the 50g out of the 18" 1:8 twist? What is "good performance"?

Good performance for me = 5/8 to 3/4 in 10 shot groups at 100. It holds 4 to 5in groups at 500 if there is no wind.

I can make hits on a head area (3.5"x3.5") on a ISPC mini steel target out to 400 yards with my 16" RRA varmint.

It usually takes me a minute or two to get warmed up but i can do it once i get going.

I shoot 400 yds with a 16" evolution barrel. Shorter barrel=lower velocity... not less accurate. At 100 - 200 yards, my results are nearly identical between my 24" bull barrel and my 16" match barrel. You only start seeing velocity issues/terminal ballistics issues out past where you want to shoot. several hundred yards or so. I've shot an 18" varmint barrel and it was a VERY nice shooter (RRA). Definitely good to AT LEAST 300 yards. IMHO
