What barrel profile on the 14.5 and 16? I know there was a thread somewhere about midlength 16" 1/7 chrome lined by sabre.
Not to get off-subject, bu will they have a 20" available?
Thinks, WIZZO |
Gemtech does not warranty cans for use on an LMT 10.5" upper
I've heard this alot, but I've been unable to get Gemtech to directly confirm. Can anyone provide this direct from Gemtech? It'd be nice if they put it on their website or something. |
Carbine length gas system barrels will be M4 profile, light under handguards. Mid-length gas system are gov. profile. |
We can order 20" if you like. Hell , that's not off subject! I am glad you reminded me! That's why I did this thread. I got so focused on the 11.5", I keep forgetting some people need longer barrels. |
I just got off the phone with Kel at Gemtech. I had a bad choice of words which I edited above. Here is the straight dope. Gemtech strongly recommends that you do not use a suppressor on a barrel length less than 11". The Colt Commando upper is the one that was chosen as a commercial target. It has an 11.5" barrel. Gemtech suppressors work on LMT uppers. Gemtech has never had to warranty a can against a baffel strike when used on an LMT upper. Even so, they still do not recommend anyone use a can on a barrel less than 11". So, for those of you who want to stick to the tried and true Commando length 11.5". We will have them available soon. For those who want to live on the edge, we sell LMT as well. |
Sorry I wasn't clear in what I meant. I assume the 14.5 is a carbine gas system, but was really wanting to know if the 16 is a midlength gas system. |
M4 feed ramps? Chamber 5.56 I assume? What type of cost are we talking about? I may be interested in a 16" with a midlength gas system
16" will be available with both gas systems.
5.56 for sure on the chamber. M4 feedramps are being discussed. Some people think they are the bees knees, some people don't want them if the drive up the cost. If we get them, it will drive up the cost. It is all being worked out right now. That is why I need your input. Let us know exactly what you want. I will do everything I can to bring it to you. |
Interesting. twl said they absolutely, positively will not use them for the midlength barrels being discussed in the EE. Maybe YOU can get a midlength barrel done with them? |
11.5" with a bilock is EXACTLY what I need. Need some prices though!
Any chance of an "F" front sight base to go along with the flattop? please! No all of us are hung up on the new fangled optics.
I'd rather see a proper FSB than M4 ramps but both would be nice if done properly |
I should have prices tomorrow. |
Good question, I will ask |
Where in Texas are you located?
I might be interested in a 16" and/or a 20". Will there be HBAR's available? |
Sabre does not make a 16" HBAR They do make a 20" HBAR We are in Houston |
What do I want? Hmmm, let's see...
1. 16" barrel 2. Mid-length gas system. 3. 4150 steel, Sabre says they use a better steel so that's good. 4. 1/7" twist 5. 5.56 chamber 6. Chrome lined chamber and bore. 7. M4 barrel extension not machined extended feed ramps! I hope you're able to convince them to do this. 8. Barrel MP tested and proofed. 9. Medium weight profile. 10. Keep the price around $300, lower is always better. 11. The "F" marked FSB shouldn't matter on mid-length but it probably wouldn't hurt. 12. Last but not least these barrels need to be available YESTERDAY! |
I'll warm up the time machine and see what I can do. |
Okay, scrap #12 but see what can be done about all the others... |
We could just fax you one ? as for F marked FSB no problem we make them both ways same assembly # just depends what upper we will put it on as to which sight we use. gm. |

Thanks for the info! BTW, My upper made it in today. Thank you very much for the fast shipping. I will be sending you an e-mail on my next order by Monday. |

Let me know when and where to send the money sir. |
This is what I've been looking for the last 6 months! What would this barrel sell for (shipped)? |
So 11.5" barrels will be lightweight under the HG, not medium like the LMT? I could go with either to be honest. +1 on "F" FSB, and true M4 feedramps. Especially if the price is more reasonable than a Colt Commando upper. |
I will have all of this info on moday or tuesday. I will be taking orders as soon as we get a solid price |
This is going to be around Sabre's price of ~$250 for chrome lined barrel?
I just got off the phone with Kel at Gemtech. I had a bad choice of words which I edited above.
Thanks for taking the time to clarify this issue. I have a Form 1 pending for an SBR, so sooner or later I'll be trying to decide what SBR upper I want. ;) |
I would be seriously tempted by one of these. 7 and 8 are optional for me. 9 is kind of nice though. |
Another vote for a middy 1/7 with all the goodies.
I'd be interested in a 11.5" too, but I'd be in the market for a mid first. |

What can I say? Somebody has to feed your addictions. Actually, Sabre gets as much credit as I do. When I went to them with a need for my customers, they stepped up to the plate for us. Sabre really is a class act. |
Update!!
Specs are now set for this order. We will be doing the 16" 1/7 mid-length with M4 extensions first. See our add in the EE here to place an order or for details on the specs. LINK Thanks to everyone who has ordered so far. We still have some of each configuration available to reserve. |
this may be a little late, but how about M16 BCG as an option?
That would be a nice option... |
He already said it was on option. I want to know what the barrel steel is. As for Gemtech cans not being warrantied with LMT 10.5" uppers I have seen Phil Dater say he would warranty them on this very site. |
DevL, you are correct on all counts. On the Gemtech issue: I edited my first post to reflect that very fact. Neither Gemtech nor Talon Arms has ever experienced a problem with an LMT 10.5" barrel. Two years ago we asked Gemtech to install a bi-lock on one of these and we were told that they would not do it. Now it seems that they have had plenty of opportunity to test with this barrel and it works fine. I posted the first statement based on what we were told then. I amended it to cover the current policy. They still do not recommend that anyone use a can on a barrel less than 11" even though LMT does not cause a problem. In light of this new fact, Talon Arms is sending our LMT 10.5" demo upper to Gemtech for a bi-lock install next week. Thanks for the chance to clarify. And on the full auto BCG, I have LMT in stock and we can upgrade anyone who needs it. The barrels are Mil-B-1159F vanadium alloy. They are a step above 4150 |
Any word if they will be doing proof load test + magnetic particle inspection on these barrels?
According to Grant Morgan Sabre will be doing statistical testing and only a few from each batch will be tested.
Good to hear, certainly better than none. I wonder what percentage of the barrels Sabre actually tests. That's all most do because it is expensive. I didn't expect them all to be MP'd at that price.
Don't quote me on this, but I think it is around 10%. Every barrel goes through several stages of quality control. If something is not right, Sabre is not afraid to scrap it. |
Any idea if/when that might get started up again? There's some interest elsewhere on the board: Which 11.5 barrel? And my addiction to Black Rifles is going to require a prescription for an SBR in a few months. |
I have heard the Sabre barrels come with round front end caps for the handguards.
So, for those of us going with plastic grips, where can we get midlength handguards that match the Sabre hardware? |
IIRC, Cav Arms uppers are made by Sabre and they Cav Arms makes the mid-length plastic handguards for them. |
You are correct. Cav Arms supplies Sabre with furniture and Sabre supplies Cav Arms with barrels and uppers. So, the Cav Arms mid-length handguards will fit the Sabre barrels and uppers we are selling. In fact, you can even get the handguards from us for $35 with your barrel. |
Is my barrel ready yet? |
11.5" CAR gas system barrels will be ordered after this midlength order gets processed. That barrel is not listed in their catalog, but we hope to have them available by fall. |
