I'm looking for a light rail to go on a 16 inch middy... Which 15" rail would you choose and why. The Samson Evolution or Midwest Gen 2 SS?

Either one is a great choice. I bought the Samson before knowing about the gen2 (didnt like hte gen 1 mounting). Ive made a few trips out to Midwest Industries and have looked at the new gen 2 models and they are all pretty nice. Really its a horse a piece. Which one do you like the looks of better...haha.

I like the Samson Evos. Easy to install and rock solid.

This is a 15" Evo on a 16" 300blk barrel.

Love the MI Gen 2 SS, it's cheaper i think. Feels good due to the small diameter. Might be lighter?

Here's my 12" on a 14.7inch barrel.

That also looks good.. Going to be a hard choice..

The Samson uses a standard barrel nut, if i am not mistaken.

The MI uses a special barrel nut. I think this one is narrower. Check out the MI industry page, there are a few threads about them.

Both are good companies with good rails.

Forgot to mention the MI Gen2SS rails are soooo much easier to install the rail sections. That's a plus. There are no peices to put inside the handguard.

The pieces in the Samson are actually pretty easy, since they have a slot on the backplate that mates to the handguard. Just let gravity do the work, and slide it into place.

I have one of the 12" Rainier Evolution versions of the Samson, and I am very happy with it. A good friend tried my rifle out, decided to put a similar hand guard on, and he chose the MI Gen2SS. They both feel very similar, they both are secure.

I think the real choice between them is if you have the proper tools needed to swap barrel nuts, than you can use the MI. If not, use the Samson/Rainier.

Samson would be my choice

Samson fan here.

That is a great point. The Samson indeed does use the stock barrel nut, the MI doesnt.

I prefer the Samson. Not only because it uses the factory barrel nut, but also because it completely encases it. I do really like the MI too, I just don't own their example yet.

The MI is lighter and thinner but uses a non standard barrel nut.
I leave this here... It's a 15" FF on a 18" barrel.
