You can install the 14.5" barrel on any lower pre-or post, once you've permanently affixed a flash hider (pre) or a muzzle brake (post) to bring the barrel length up to the minimum legal 16" barrel length.
If you want the rifle to have an OAL barrel length of less than 16" you'll need to do a Form 1 with the ATF and register the rifle as a short-barreled rifle prior to assembly. Presuming, of course, your locality allows it and you can get the correct sign-offs. |

And note that a GI-type A1 or A2 flash suppressor would be too short to get the rifle out past 16". For that, you'd need an extended FS, such as a Phantom, Vortex, KKF A3, Gem-Tech Bi-Lock, or something similar. And it MUST be permanently attached for it to count in the over-all length measurement. The best way to do this is to use the pin & weld method. Bushmaster will permanently attach a Phantom for you (recommended), and Kurt at KKF could do any of the others if you like them better.
The same rules apply for a post-ban, except the device must NOT be a flash suppressor, and cannot be 22mm in diameter. Kurt makes and A3 brake that's perfect. -Troy |
