Could someone please shed some light on barrel lenght? Is there a big difference in the bullets trajectory from a 14.5" barrel as opposed to a 16"? And how wil this affect the rangefinding on the ACOG scopes that are calibrated for 16"?

I have only been a member since June, and already I have seen this come up a dozen times (including the thread where I asked the same thing).  To keep it simple, figure about 100 fps slower in a 14.5".

Thanks, at the rate in which a .223 travels, that dose'nt sound significant. I do however seem to remeber questions in Iraq, about shoter barrels and bullet penetration?

QWith 95% of combat taking place at under 100 yds and 75% of that under 50yds your not at a disadvatage with either but I like smaller better so I use 14.5/phantom.

Ummm, yeah.

Once again:

Go and read www.ammo-oracle.com/body.htm

There is more involved in the seemingly short change.

Correct me if I am wrong but doesnt the 14.5 have a fixed flash supressor and the 16 have a threaded.   I would go for the 16, many more options.

+ 100,000

You know, if someone would have told me that there was a significant difference in report between a 16" and a 14.5" gun, I would have laughed at them. . . . then I built one, DAMN those 14.5's are LOUD

I got a 16" M4 barrel and didn't even notice that I didn't have a 14.5, haha

You get slightly better performance and it doesn't hinder mobility at all... I'd say get the 16" just for performance, options, etc.
