Why is it considered, by some, to be the best bbl length?

As for why some comsider it best, it just hits a nice spot there. More reliable than the shorter lengths but even with a Phantom or Vortex attached it's shorter than a 14.5" with a bare muzzle.

It can be made to fit certain cans like the SPR/M4 or 12th with pretty much all midlength rails. An 11.5" barrel cannot do that. It gives a nice boost in velocity which raises the range at which fragmentation no longer occurs by a huge amount over say a 10.5" barrel. Its short enough... yet long enough. I have an 11.75" barrel, not a 12.5" which is gaining popularity. The length is just to fit my suppressor and rail combination.

I LIKE THE 12.5" NOVESKE BARREL UPPERS FOR ALL THE REASONS MENTIONED ABOVE, PLUS ONE MORE:

THEY ARE UNCANNILY ACCURATE! IT IS NOT UNUSUAL FOR OUR 12.5" CUSTOM BUILDS USING NOVESKE BARRELS TO SHOOT UNDER HALF-MOA AT 100 YARDS.

For my rookie, general preferences ... if it's gonna be anything shorter than a 16" midlength, then my first choice would be to have a 12.5" with a can.

VLTOR doesn't make an 11" so it has to be a 9 or 10"

My long term goal, money no object and Magpul\BM doing their part would be a Masada\ACR with the retracting\folding stock and a 12.5" barrel chambered in 6.8mm SPC!!!

Make it select fire and stick a Schmidt & Bender short dot on it and to me, short of a plasma gun, I think that would be the most bad ass "be all-do all-end all" combat rifles ever!!!
