The Rev. B version incorporates a Bayonet Lug cutout to ease assembly. Also, all the handguards we currently ship have had the edges and angles "melted" a little to reduce snags and bites.

Doesn't look like it, the bottom is closed off. I wonder if it requires that you ground off the bayo lug, unless it's got more height on the bottom (and on top too) than the RAS as it looks. The KAC MRE RAS exposes the lug but directly in front there's the MRE part of the RAS that renders it incapable of mounting a bayo.

Sort of "re-inventing" the RAS MRE.
Oh well the lightning holes don't make too much sence but the full length bottom rail looks like a great idea. (I guess why KAC couldn't is they didn't have tall rails top and bottom like yours.) (I have 3 FF RAS's right now and after installing them I wonder why no one has turned down the center of the RAS barrel nut, it weighs about as much as the RAS if not more, so why not reduce it's weight by 50%?) I also noticed that even installed (I haven't gotten a strap wrench yet) so they are just hand tight, but they have a little bit more give than I think you would want in an RAS (esspecially one mounting sighting devices). My SIR had almost zero give (even if I really ulled on the RAS and barrel to try to get it to give (about .02inch with the SIR almost 1/10inch with the FF RAS) [b]I hope the strap wrench tightening gets rid of some of that.[/b] |

The point of this revision is that no grinding or lug removal is required. The top rail of our handguard is at the same height as the upper receiver rail. It is our oval profile that enables us to have a continuous bottom rail. southern |

We fully tighten and loosen that nut at least 3 times to ensure the threads are fully mated. With proper installation, we have found that the barrel will usually flex well before our handguard. southern |

The bbl. nut on the DD forends are made of aluminum if I recall whereas the FF RAS is steel. I have "heard" the aluminum nut is quite strong but while still weighing alot less than the KAC unit.

I'm confused as to how you get the front sight base behind the front top rail. It doesn't look like the top of the rail is removable. What am I missing? Thanks, Josh |

Josh, I'm just guessing here but I think you drop the front sight tower in the handguard, then bring the handguard with the front sight towards the barrel nut (with the barrel torqued and installed, of course).
