Why has nobody looked into replacing a traditional BCG with a "bolt carrier sized" carrier/spring assembly that would enable folding stocks on traditional AR15 platform?

I'm sure it's possible to lessen the stroke of the bcg and add a captive spring assembly (possibly 2 parts with one that rides in the upper as a traditional BCG and one that screws into the back of the receiver similarly to an extension tube).

not enough room

besides that, the hammer would hit any kind of spring you would shoe horn in the upper receiver

to completely extract  a 556 round, you would have 1.5" -1.75" of room to fit a compressed spring plus the 2.25" need for the round extraction.

You would need a 4" spring with enough force to move the BCG and only compress into 1-3/4".

The ares scr lower is pretty clever, but not exactly what you're talking about.

I wish they were reasonably priced, and I live in a free state.

Evolution weapon systems is doing this. They've been actually releasing Instagram + thegatman on Instagram has been posting videos about this.

Check the videos out, it uses conventional parts without replacing everything. Works also with piston according to them answering my questions.

ok, so it sounds that a couple people are at least looking into it..

I'm no industry insider, so I rarely am on the cutting edge of anything related to firearms.  contrary to the opinion of the first post, I know there's enough room to figure it out, I just wasn't sure why I hadn't heard about anyone trying to figure it out..

thanks for the replies fellas, I'll look into the references you've posted..  and anyone with any more suggestions of where to look or who to watch, I'm all ears (eyes?)...

It's been done before. It didn't sell well and died.

ZM Weapons LR-300
weren't those around $2,000 and only sold in complete rifle configurations? (and the company did so largely under the veil of the Clinton assault weapons ban)

I'm thinking more about a "BCG kit" with an adapter for the stock that you could put on "any" rifle..

Probably as close as you can get to what you want.
This allows any standard upper.
There have many other bufferless ARs over the years, oly arms come to mind, but they moved the recoil system into the upper.

that would probably work.
I'm thinking about a system that could convert from a pistol to a rifle easily. (once F1 paperwork arrives)
