It was a Colt.  I'm not sure what model it was.  It was semi-automatic.  I think it shot the 5.56 round.

I just bought my first gun (pistol) a couple of weeks ago.

I had a chance to try it out at the range.  Man it kicked butt!
The recoil wasn't bad and it was powerful.

As a medical professional, I would say you are showing all the signs and sypmtoms of BRD.  You have been infected and there is no hope for you.

Welcome to the Club.  You are in excellent company.

+1

Hopefully he doesn't find all his credit cards maxed out, his bank account empty, and his girlfriend leaving him because he is more interested in AR-15s than her.  With that said, I know that I am an addict because I keep saying, I am going to build just one more and that is it.... then I start selling/trading off parts to start building one more.... then I say that is the last one......  then I start over again.  Crap, this is a vicious cycle.

It's a fun hobby to share with the girlfriend. Trust me on this.

Though it gets expensive having two mouth's to feed..

AND DO BE CAREFUL when owning His and Hers AR's...  They reproduce (as can be seen in this photo)

I too have recently caught BRD. I am in the process of choosing  between a Colt, an Armalite and a Stag Arms (have a poll below please vote).

Honestly, I would pic the style M4, 20", etc and buy the cheapest one of the three manufactures you have listed if those are the ones you have narrowed it down to. You really can't go wrong.

Congrats Boma.

I purchased my first AR earlier this month and have yet to shoot it. A DPMS.

To boot, I have ordered the necessary tools to assemble another.  BRD has hit me BIG TIME.

If your are like me, I spend my time searching here to get the answers to the "stupid" questions and sometimes I ask one anyhow.

Haha thanks for the warm welcome.  Umm. how much does a good AR cost?  The depupty that let me shoot it said around $1000 since there's no more gun ban?

OH yeah I shot my first gun ever only 3 weeks ago.  I bought a springfield armory xd 9mm bi-tone.  How much do AR bullets cost?  Are they available anywhere, such as Wal-Mart and Academy?

My GF really likes it too.  She said the recoil wasn't too bad and it was fun to shoot.  Such firepower h.gif

YOu could make your own for about 5-600 bucks. You would only need to purchase a few tools, and the cost savings would be great. Otherwise you could probably find a nice one for 7-800 bucks.

That really depends on where you live.
A good one (Colt, Bushmaster, CMT/Stag, RRA, Armalite) will run close to $1000, but sometimes you can find deals (especially with the CMT/Stag or RRA).

How much do AR bullets cost?

Cartridges (Bullets are the projectile, and I'm assuming you are not into reloading) can run anywhere from $2.20 for 20 rounds for Wolf 55gr  up to $28/50 for Black Hills 77gr Heavy Match.  Most people spend anywhere from $3.40 to $4.50 per box of 20.  Though most of us buy by the case (1000 rounds).

Though you can spend $130 or so and get a .22 conversion kit so you can shoot .22LR out of your AR (about $2/box 50).

Are they available anywhere, such as Wal-Mart and Academy?

Absolutely, .223 is one of the most popular rifle rounds in the US.

What he said ^^^^ :)

I'm building a full Stag complete with upgraded grip and 3 mags.  Comes out to about $750.

Stag M4 Chrome-Lined Upper - $465
Stag Lower - Local sale for $109+tax, no transfer fees
First Samco G27 - $25
3 Mags - $35
6pos Stock - $55
Lower Parts Kit - $56

Ammo at the range where I shoot is $6 per 20, but I have to use their ammo, but as said above, you can find it way cheaper, and yes, even Wal-Mart carries it I believe.

By the way, every single item was purchased off this site or from dealers affiliated with it, except for the lower receiver. The Equipment Exchange is the way to go

Good to hear it.  Did she also enjoy the AR?  You two are never going to be the same.

Now we have you hooked.

Where would you find one for 700-800 bucks?  That sounds like a good deal and can only be had at a gun show or something.

Wow bullets do cost a lot more than my 9MM =).So Colt, Aramlite, Stag are the good brands, eh? (no i'm not canadian)

See what M4A1 did?  You can go that route or have your dealer order you a complete Stag lower (so all you have to do is slap on the upper).

Not really.  I pay about the same for shooting my Glock as I do my AR.  Depending on what kind of deal I'm getting as to which is cheaper.  Now with the premium rounds the 5.56 is a bit more expensive, but it's also alot more capable.

Yep.

Boma, do you have AOL Instant Messenger?

I can set you in the right direction for buying everything that I am, and will cost just under $750

Is that for reloads or commerical manufactured ammo?  I'm not into reloading, even though I know about it's benefits.
