OK, everyone is not going to spend $400 plus on optics. Is there a consensus on who makes the better cheap optics? I'm looking at Ultradot or TruGlo dot sights. Any comments?

best cheap is an oxymoron. kinda like jumbo shrimp. dont waste your time or money on either one of those . how much do you have to spend and just excatly what type of scope are you looking for . I would suggest you check out primary arms since marsh is a forum vendor and he stands behind what he sales . he gets good reviews and can probably hook you up with something.

The consensus is Primary Arms. It doesn't get any better or inexpensive for range optics.

I had a vortex strikefire on my AR, they run about $150.00 I like mine,
I replaced it with a trijicon tri-power and put the vortex on my .22 AR, You may want to check them out. |

We have a good lineup of training/range optics. Red dots start at $69. Just search on Primary Arms or take a look in our industry forum for plenty of feedback about the product and service. We also are a factory direct Vortex dealer.

If you watch around gun shows, you can sometimes pick up older Aimpoint sights for cheap, they're just as durable as some of the newer ones, but without the incredible long battery life. Sure they may not be modern day mil spec, but they're miles ahead of the Chinese airsoft forgeries.

I wouldnt go any less than a PA or a Votex, but the Aimpoint C3 is a great deal, or a used ML2 off the EE.

I have a BSA Deerhunter 2.5x20mm on my carbine. It has a nice amount of magnification for 100yds and in, isn't very heavy or obstructive. and is surprisingly solid. Where I skimped on the glass, however, I made up for in rings. I have a $40 optic on $70 Leupold QD rings. The damn thing holds zero very well and is quite bright. I recommend the set up quite highly for the budget conscious.
ETA: I'm a poor college student: Can't afford a good optic OR a good camera.
