DPMS 308 at Walmart?

[ARCHIVED THREAD] - DPMS 308 at Walmart?

My local walmart has been carrying ar15's for the last few months. I went in to check on ammo prices on Sunday and noticed that they had a DPMS AR10 for under $900. Anyone else seen or handled the weapon? Not sure the exact model as they were busy and I didn't ask to handle it. Been wanting an auto in 7.62 and the price seemed nice for an AR10. I've heard good things about the DPMS brands. Was gonna look into building one off an Armalite lower but it was looking to cost well over $1200.

Sounds like a sportical. No dust cover, brass reflector, etc. Real basic gun. Armalite for the win.

DPMS AR style rifles chambered in 308/7.62 is refer as DPMS 308/ LR308

Come on. Everybody blows their nose in Kleenex and nobody calls other brands just facial tissue. This AR10 thing only lives on this forum because lawyers got involved.

This is true with facial tissue but not .308 AR's. There is the Armalite pattern and the Stoner/Knight's/DPMS pattern. Mags are the biggest difference. They do not swap. Armalite uses a mag similar in dimension to M1A1/M14 and the DPMS uses the Stoner/SR25 pattern mags(like Magpul PMagLR).

As CabinetMan pointed out, most parts do not swap either. Different parts, receiver sizes, etc.

To the OP, if you see one and want to buy one, you should as parts, guns and ammo are already getting harder and harder to come by here in the great Northwest.

Wal-Mart in Lake St. Louis Mo. has a Colt M4 Carbine for 1085 and a DPMS LR-308 Sportical for 895.

I prefer the SR-25 magazine personally. Had some teething issues with my DPMS SASS .308. Very happy I got it. Runs great suppressed. Groups are excellent.

I'd highly suggest the DPMS/SR25/Maten/etc pattern rifle.

a DPMS style upper will not physically fit on a Armalite AR10 lower
while a AR10 lower will FIT on a DPMS lower there is a very large gap at the bottom rear of the upper.
if the uppers and lowers are not interchangable, how can it be the same rifle?
i own a DPMS LR308C (carry handle and all) and love it.
its a AR15 on steroids.

I saw one at my local Walmart as well...probably a sportical. I'm building my own off a CMMG lower and a side charging upper though, so, I looked mostly for curiosity

My point is. The generic term for a grown up AR of the original basic design is most often called an AR10. I own a R25, nobody has a clue what that is, but if I say AR10 the understand the basic design. AR15 is the generic for many different rifles from many makers in a bazzillion calibers. AR10 is not used here because of copyright laws and confusion on this forum. My AR15 is really a PS15 but I won't worry about calling it that here. Remington sells a R15, then there is the M&P15 and others.

I agree with AR10 being the generic term for a .308 platform. However, as someone already pointed out, the .308 platforms are not as interchangeable as the AR15 5.56 platforms. Even among the magazines.

Just to throw this out I saw a Sig 716 .308 today in a shop in Natchez. I did not even know about them so I must have had my head in the sand. I liked the looks of it but don't need to spend the money right now. Very well fitted rifle but a price of almost $1900. Worth it but I don't need to spend it. Saw an SR25 at a pawn shop earlier this morning for $3500. If I don't quit going to gun shops I will get into trouble.

Even they call it an AR-10 type weapon. Oh and it uses SR25/P-Mags which new Armalite AR-10 rifles are now being designed to take.
