Looking for something inexpensive, only real requirement is nitride or chrome bore. Any ideas?

Model 1 Sales makes relatively inexpensive 7.62x39 uppers. They have quality E.R. Shaw barrels, but if I remember correctly, no chrome. Look in to it.

P.S. Make sure you get M4 Feed Ramps

They don't have chrome and IMO are pretty expensive. I can build a upper using high quality parts for close to that. Looking for something under $500.

That's a pretty tall order for a complete X39 upper...Most places I've checked are out of stock or on back order.

I personally think that a chrome lined bore is not a big Issue...

My sons M59/66 SKS has had tons of surplus ammo through It
w/ no Ill effects to the bore or rifle from corrosive ammo...

Just use some CLP spray and few wet patches down the bore/chamber
and in the action and your done.

Sounds like you have already looked around as much as anyone here just go with what you have already found.

My 10.5" has a Shaw barrel shortened and threaded on a lathe and just shot past 2800rds last week.  I've put about 300 non-corrosive rounds through it and only 40 of those were in the last 2 months.

I haven't found a great reason to run a CL barrel.

I believe YHM has some though.

You really don't need chrome lined. I just run a CLP coated boresnake, wipe the chamber and lugs and store it. And that is after corrosive ammo.

I found a link to ONE dealer who says they are selling chrome lined Bushmaster uppers. Keep in mind, this barrel is not usually sold chrome lined so this is would be "special".

I am partial to the Bushies for a factory upper. The factory feedramp is sweet and never heard anything bad about it. The unmodified factory quality is good to go.
And last but 1st! The price is good for factory.

Let us know what they say on the due date if you order. I have a buddy who is going 7.62x39 for a plinker soon.

Chrome is more because I'm a lazy bastard more than any fear of corrosion. Just something I like to have. Point was that M1Sales upper is expensive even without CL; the MAparts offering is more attractive. Regardless looks like I'm gonna build it myself I suppose.

Not sure where you're getting $500 from for M1S. You must be including BCG price.

$365 seemed to fall in the "inexpensive" category you inquired about.

or Bushy/Olympic on Midway for $505/$560 respectively. Though both are out of stock.

Like above posts, go with the home build if M1S isn't satisfactory enough for you.

I own one and love it. Was on my front door less than 10 days after ordering. Good luck with whatever you decide.

505 complete from m1s

http://model1sales.com/images/products/u16carpre7.gif

http://model1sales.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=category.display&category_id=308

I recently got this from them as a kit - my options were flat top dissy, I removed the front sight base that came with it since the gas system is mid length anyway - the free float hand guard was another 35, the magpul ctr stock is a 75 dollar option, the moe grip was 15 extra so 710 shipped for the kit minus the lower.

I added a pws brake, magpul sling and some other stuff but the most important part I think is the wolf +15% hammer spring needed for shooting steel relaiblity, it's not included but they are 3 bucks from brownels. The new kits come with a slightly longer firing pin to improve reliability.

Too bad Bushmaster does not offer an 11.5" version or anything shorter than 16". I really like their feed ramp.

I'm a bourbon man... but have Merlot in me and Merlot makes me mean.

I just want to rage at you for missing out on the ARMALITE Christmas Sale less than one month ago.

You would have hit the jackpot.

So, if you grab their barrel and bolt and buy the rest as you want it, I have all the tools.

I'm in Dallas.

EDIT:  ARMALITE barrels are known for accuracy and function.  You won't buy better.
Cheaper, yes, but cheaper is even expensive today.

EDIT II: OK, not really rage, just fuss at ya' like the old man that I am.

If you check the link they offer the barrels in two options chrome lined or stainless steel - also they do have them in a 11.5 inch commando or pistol length, I am not sure if you want to go shorter than that.

Try to pick up a 16" carbine barrel and have it shortened and threaded at ADCO.  Mine had a .078 port from the factory (16") and short stroked with that but it runs wonderfully at .094 since going throw the proper shortening.

It suppresses extremely well also. I do plan on making subsonics later.

I also recommend having ADCO contour the barrel to .700 behind the gas block. Mine started at 25oz and went to 21oz.

I'm going to give Ballistic Advantage a shot. Long-ish lead times, but I'm patient. What can you running?

YHM 762 Titanium. When I've shot it suppressed it was with my friend's SS 762. I figured the $250 difference was worth it once I saw how light it was when mounted.  23 days pending now.

Probably the bushy; the M1S isnt chromed and the MAparts is higher priced, and probably neither has as good quality parts.

Heres what I've come up with:

Melonite 10.5" barrel from Ballistic Adv $245
SA&A upper $80
AR15perf superbolt $100
BCM carrier $69
BCM gunfighter $38
Spikes melonite gas tube $13
M4 handguards/hardware and A2 hider I have laying around $0
total $550

Try looking at 5.45x39 uppers then. Surplus ammo can be had for $130-140/1000 rds
