"The benefit to the overmolding is GRIP. These things are so non-slip it's not funny. wet hands, dry hands, muddy gloves, chocolate, bloody mess, whatever." Never underestimate the lubricity of melted chocolate and bloody messes! Nice pics though- I thought people bought the KAC RAS for the "cool" KAC pannel covers : ) I'm in the Infantry (Army National Guard) but I rarely mention that life depends on it stuff [I volunteered to deploy when they asked about Iraq but I'm still here so I guess that means I'm not going. I stopped saying that stuff about the time that I realized the Governor only sends support MOS's to war (they try to give us stuff like homeland security because they don't think were combat-effective, but we are- they're just too liberal to ever look in on training to see for themselves.)

Can these be cut to fit like the Knights panels?

aww look at all the pretty posed gear. now clean those boots, get a real gasmask and there is never EVER dropping of weapons cute spongy grips or not. [:D]

The only Israeli mask I ever had worked (proper seal and all) I have had 3 USGI masks issued to me and none that would maintain a good seal without my hands holding the mask on. I like the older vietnam style with cheek filters- those masks allowed the user to breath- the new USGI masks are very restrictive and many people nearly hyperventilate wearing them (it never lets you feel like you are getting any oxygen). I could only wonder what it would be like to wear one when scared and out of breath.

Those look pretty sweet. Where did you get them?

11-bravo - when I first became a firefighter in 1984, we had a self contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) manufactured by Scott Aviation that absolutely would not give you enough air if you over-exerted. When I became an officer and accepted the responsibility for my guys, I took to making them run around the station, up stairs, etc with the SCBA on.... NO ONE OF THEM could resist the urge to pull the mask from thier face. Some house fires are toxic enough to drop you in one breath... I know, found out the hard way and got lucky, the mask sealed on my unconscious face... I agree with you 1000%, equipment will kill you if you don't ID it's limitations before you need it.

I am a little confused how you got the panel cover on the top rail... Did you need to put this on before you put the RAS on the upper? If so, I assume you can't clamp the upper half to the barrel nut? OR, do these panels attach in a way that is different than the KAC panels? I am not sure why somebody would want a cover there BUT I am curious just how you did it!

I slide mine on from the back of the upper no problems. As for having a pannel cover there I put mine on to protect the rail when not in use.

OK... I am slow today! So you slip it onto the flattop rail and slide it forward over the RAS rail... Thanks for the advise. It's just that this is the first time I really noticed someone using covers on the top rail and given that I never remove my optics or BUIS I never played with a cover on top... I still doubt I would do it with my own uppers but each to their own! Great looking weapons just the same!

I'm not much of a panel fan, but these are truly the most comfortable I have tried. I do wish they opened them up in the center with some venting holes for cooling ability for the continued overall weapon performance, instead of trapping hot air like the KAC panels do. Good Shootin, Jack

Can they be painted? Further to "Jack's" comment - could you drill them with 1/4" holes ever 1/2" or so down the centre? I have seen that done to KAC panels...

Has anyone who used these noticed if they make the gun feel very thick? I saw a pait at the Shot Show, I dont even remember what type of handguards they were on, but I do recall feeling like it was really thick.

Bandit, I was being silly - but curious to see what colors they can be molded into. I glued some of the sandtraps from my CADPAT pants onto the RAS panels and it seems to work - plus it added a needed texture.
