Glad someone said it.

Masada (a romanization of the Hebrew מצדה, Mitzada, from מצודה, metzuda, "fortress") is the name for a site of ancient palaces and fortifications in the South District of Israel on top of an isolated rock plateau on the eastern edge of the Judean Desert overlooking the Dead Sea. Masada became famous for its significance in the First Jewish-Roman War (Great Jewish Revolt), when a siege of the fortress by troops of the Roman Empire led to a mass suicide of the site's Jewish defenders when defeat became imminent.

i wonder why magpul chose to name a weapon after a battle in which one side killed them selves rather than fight to the death.

I think the Thermopoly would of been a better name

what was the romans serious lesons?  I am serious? this is one battle i did not study up on?

This is not a clone. No way, no how.

You really should wait for all the details before you make up your mind. The barrel system, the way the FCG works, the forend, the way it breaks down, the ambidextrous nature of everything, the stock systems, etc....there is so much going on it's amazing. I don't see any downside to it at all. I held it and fumbled with it so long they probably thought I was gonna make a break for the door. Forget the scar, aug, sig556, blah blah blah this is the new big dog.

The HK G36 is an AR18 clone too. It's not an insult, just a descriptor.

HOLY SH*T, I hope the democraps don't slap a ban in before these become available, looks like I found my next rifle, especially if they come out with a .308 version. Gonna start saving now and hope the reviews are good, because I'm sure the price is going to go north of 1400 before it's all said and done.

In all honesty the Masada is nothing more than a G36 with a one piece lower and using AR15 barrels.

It's nice that it's something sort of new, but I just doesn't do it for me in it's current form.

In any case this Masada came about after we gave up working on a polymer lower and upper sometime ago.

About 3 months ago we just decided to start with a clean sheet of paper and the current Masada is the result.

Upper is 7000 series ALU with internal steel (bearing surface) rails.

We sucessfully test fired the rifle just five days ago.

here is a PDF of the inside features...

The Masada has an aluminum upper so it shouldn't crack like the G36 or melt like the XM8.

Not to get away from the magpul, but does anyone have any updated info on the 557/3x from Eotech? Price point, additional features, time frame? Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Ok,

I like it alot more know.

It's very similar to my fantasy rifle design, except my vision had a more AR like rear to the lower, and the rear of the upper more resembling the SCAR or a Sig550.

And I guess we are back to the Robot leg stocks

Great work though I might have to get one If I don't build mine first.

I'm down with the Magpul MASADA. I really like what they've done here. Even though not all the info is out yet it looks really promising.

I was going to get a PS90....looks like I'll be holding out, this is the something different I was looking for.

Not quite. the upper is all ALU and Steel and the barrel is no tool QD.
Drop In trigger pack, adjustable gas system, non recip charging handle and folding/stock are some other things that spring to mind.

Can you tell us who is actually mfg the rifle?

I said that before I got to see the inside.

I'm now very impressed, read my post at the top of this page.

A few suggestions, if all possible make the grip compatible with the MAIDs front and backstrap, I love the B2 backstrap. And I think a CTRish look buttstock would at least look better.

oh yeah and bigger better rasterization

Was this all done in Solidworks?

The interrupted ACME threaded barrel nut w/ the integral spring wire handle is f*cking genius.  Absolutely spectacular.

I'm also guessing that the gas piston is quite similar to the HK G36 piston.

Agreed, I'm putting aside money now. As for the Kel-Tec .308, I'll wait until hundreds are out there, and the "street" version is thoroughly tested and wrung out. Something about a 7.62mm chamber by my face, in an unproven design, has me more than a little aprehensive.

As for one of the new Aimpoints, it is the Micro T1 (585.00'ish). I got the new Shooting Illustrated last night and it was in it. Looks slick. Aluminum and stainless steel construction, 3 1/2 ounces, 2.4in long, 1.7in high, with an integral picatinny rail mount. Has a 4moa dot, and 30,000 hour battery life, or 3 1/2 years continuous at the full brightness setting! To quote part of the article;

The Micro T-1 is the result of requests from operators around the world for a rugged, yet unobtrusive, red-dot sight as weapon systems become more complex with a host of accessories hung on them. The idea to develop a much smaller sight was based on the awareness that there is a need for a small sight on weapons that become too bulky when equiped with an Aimpoint Comp M2/3...

... it is deffinately tactical, prettly slick, and will be a hit. ETA:The Aimpoint T-1 is a tube style like the rest of their Comp' series, just does not look like anything they have ever made. I figured I would add that since the size given might lead some to think it was   just another Doctor/J-Point type sight.

By the looks of it, its the same basic system from the AR-18, so yes similar to G36/SA80/XM8

It looks like it's more of the HK style - the piston appears to be inside the gas block instead of vice versa like the AR18 and the LWRC piston.  There are some vent holes (?) towards the front as well.  If it has rings on the piston it would be even closer to the HK.

Not passing judgement, just observing.

Re: MASADA - I'm trying to figure out why the gas vent sits further out on the longer bbl. versions.  Shouldn't venting allow the position of front sight/gas block to remain static irrespective of bbl. length?

I won't disagree with you, but either way the Operating system is a direct relative to the AR-18 which is totally awesome.

Now if that Masada doesn't inspire one to get out the vote to cancel the Dem's 78,000 national vote margin in the next election, then I don't know WTF would.

DAMN, that is one fine piece of machinery there.

Remember it uses AR15 barrels.

It appears that the 11.5 uses a carbine length gas port and all the other use a midlength gas port.

Magpul took everything that was great from the AR15 and the AR18 combined them and updated it to the 21st century.
