centerfire has pretty cheap "dark bore" yugo kits...and was wondering if they are worth bothering with.

Havent there been reports of some 'dark bores' kits having bores rusted so bad they looked like .22 barrels? Accuracy isnt much of a question if its non-functional.

But, i dont have any personal experience with any, some others can correct me if I'm wrong.

Edit: Cool VVV And to be fair, the one i read about with the really bad bore said centerfire replaced it IIRC.

Between my dad and I, we have ordered 3 yugo kits from centerfire. All have plenty of life left in them. None were rusted or sewer pipe. The yugo AK is built a lot tougher than the romanian so maybe it could be just as accurate despite the barrel shortfall.

6 inch group @100 yards seems to be about the norm for a rommy (not to say there arnt some that do alot better )
i dont see a barrel with no rifling doin much worse so i wouldnt worry bout a dark bore to much

besides, the historical significance of these babies (especially the hand-carved ones) far outweighs the shootability factor.  at least for me.

I had a dark bore Hungarian typeIII,it had deep rifling but the bore was dark.It was the most accurate AK I've ever owned.

I've got a Yugo SKS with a bore like a sewerpipe.  "Frosty" would only cover it if you were talking about the grunge that builds up on the sidewalks 2 weeks after a snowfall in NYC.  I've never gotten a completely clean patch out of it, and I've really gone to town on it a few times.  Anymore I'm afraid of doing more damage than good.

It shoots 2" groups at 100 yards with commie ammo.  Beats the chinese and russian examples I've shot, and some of those were in immaculate shape.

If the rifling was really shot out I'd pass, but a funky barrel with good grooves I'd snatch right up.

As important as the bore is the condition of the crown.
