have a bentmetal .050 blank, the ace templete appears to small, what templete is correct with this size blank.
PART OF EMAIL RECEIVED FROM IBE,
I dont use a template myself(I copy an
example of the model i,m building by laying it out on
the blank with diechem layout fluid)I,ve had other
customers claim success with the ace template but
heres what can happen, About 90% of the time if you
have a copy off a copy machine it will not be the same
as the orignal IE shorter and fatter or longer and
thinner and sometimes if you print it off the net it
is a little off depending on printer and settings. So
you could have a bad template, I,m thinking this might
be the case as the added .010 in material would only
make the fire control group pin holes .010 lower an
acceptable variance in most ak models and almost
invisable to the eye. The measurement in a direct line
from the center of the trigger pin hole to the center
of the hammer pin hole should be 1.575 inches, if not
then the template is wrong
That is correct, the Ace template is designed for a .040 blank.
There is not enough "bend allowance" built into the template for a .050 receiver
I know of no one, who offers a template for a .050 blank.
However if you cut the Ace template along the fold lines, align the bottom part along the center line, and the side pieces with the top of the receiver, it might work correctly.
The new ace template is for their .045 blank. Bought both so far everything assembled right. Even the selector hole, when you put it to safe there is no space at the top. That was the only thing that stopped me from buying the bentmetal blank no template. This was my first build and now I am sure that I could make the bentmetal blank work. Good luck. Also I matched the template set I bought from Ace with one I downloaded from their site and it was the same size.
