looked like a dark stain on the handguard wood, but I handeled it a bit, and it started to rub off.

so I took a bit of damp cloth, and it rubbed right off, everywhere except where some oil had dripped on it, and there it seems it is quite permanent. so what is this stuff?

can I just rub oil on it and it becomes permanent?

Did they forget to laquer it?

what's the deal?

its a colored poly
the color is soaked into the wood like you would expect its all on the outside
paint stripper and 3 min of rubin it will remove it all

then you can start over
i stained mine almost black then removed it all
but the stain will stick in the grain of the wood leaving you with a really nice blond
