I just got an unfired wasr 1063 in a trade and want to upgrade.  I wander if it's worth my while to duracoat and put a 225.00 combloc stock on it.

Unfired? I'd first buy a few hundred rounds to break it in. That said, they are pretty rough, I refinished the wood soon after I got mine..

I think I got lucky.  No problems with tapco or thermold mags. I may have paid too much.  800.00 with bulldog case, 4 ags, and 200 rds

If your going to pay to get it refinished, I would go ahead and get something good.

I have always wanted my ak done in mossy oak

Need to fire it to verify if it's accurate & not a bad one. After that you can do whatever.  Most here simply refinish/replace the wood & be done with it. It's a WASR....not known to be pretty anyway.

True.  Gonna use it for a bug out rifle anyway

You can do whatever you want with it, paint it chartreuse and hot pink, with Hello Kitty stickers all over it, even. It will still work, no matter what you do.

Me, I want mine to look like this:

As long as the sights are straight and it cycles fine,it will shoot as good as any high dollar Stain the wood, will help with looks. As far as finish,I've done a few WASR's. Duracoat,Gun-koat,they are ok. I've found that using hi-temp(1200-1400)Dupli-color or VHT finishes are very tough against gas,oil and solvents. These two finishes also cure alot harder and are more resistant to scratches and chips as well. Cost less than $10 a can as opposed to the other finishes above.
