The simple answer is that the K-var is expensive and I have read that it has trigger link issues. Search this and other forums for reviews.

On the DIY side: many have tried. I like the bullpup configuration. I have trouble with the length of pull. For the mag to clear the grip, the length exceeds 14 inches. My arms like a shorter distance from shoulder to trigger. Other platforms may have fewer problems where the mag is inserted instead of being "rocked" and locked into position. Beyond that issue, the trigger mechanisms are straight forward, though more complex. The Valmet system has merit here in simplicity. Sights are another issue, combined with checkweld.

I think the standard configuration of orthodox designs have fewer disadvantages. Perhaps that is why there are more of them than of bullpups.

I did a conver. Years ago When the wasr first came out. It was the 2nd AK and started the build bug. It's not a hard deal, triger conector rod sucks BAD. Made one from stainless tig rod, less flex and you can adjust around pinch points. I went with a scope mount first, then made a lowered one from a cheap mosin scout mount to get a halo on line. Lost rear sights, so removed front add muzzle brake. Triger is the big thing, but can be worked out. It's a fun shooter and gets looks. Down side Im left handed and gotta think or catch a bolt handle in the teeth.
