I don't know of an "issue" vests that will carry 40 round mags, so your best bet is a 4-mag pouch.  The Russian pouches are pretty common online.  I'd start with trident military sales.  If you know anyone in Iraq, have them grab you a few.

Try the BlackHawk Industries Commando chest harness... its pockets are deep and pretty much made for the AK mag... I think that more than one mag per cell... and I think that their are 4 cells on this model... is about as much as you are going to want to carry. Any more than that and you will soon have a sore lower back.

The other alternative is to find the 40 rd 3 or 4 cell mag pouch... I seem to remember K-Var having some... take a peek there... but its like an over the shoulder book bag type set up.

You could go the route of the Russian vests and all... but, the workmanship is less than desired and by the time you buy all the vests because they failed... you could have bought several Blackhawk or US ones...
