i've been contemplating getting one in 7.62x39.  what are they like to shoot? accuracy? things to watch out for?

i assume there is a alot of muzzle jump, and the flash might burn my eyebrows, but they look a hella lot of fun to shoot.

As for accuracy: forum

Extremely fun to shoot. High coolness factor, especially when hanging from a 1-point sling. Unfortunately, accuracy range is only about 1/4 or 1/3 of an SBR.  So, if you live in a state that allows SBR's, a Krink is the way to go, as they are accurate out the 150 - 200 yards. AK pistols are accurate only within about 50 yards.

I am very interested in AK pistols too, but apparently me and you are the only ones.

I want an AK pistol in 7.62 but they seem to be really, really expensive!

I've seen them from anywhere around 450 over a 1000 dollars.  I am looking at the ones on Red Jacket and Atlantic Firearms.  If there is another source, I wish someone would chime in.

Would someone explain to me why AK Pistols are so much more expensive than a regular AK???

A couple of guys built AK pistols from flats at the WI AK build party. Took about the same ammount of work as a regular AK.

No idea why a dealer would charge so much.

My only guess is that because they shorten the barrel on most there is some added work there....and blocking off the rear of the receiver.  Also possibly since they don't sell as many they up the prices on them.  Who knows but it's damn confusing to me.

The higher cost comes from all the machine work involved in shortening and turning down the barrel to accept the gas block, handguard retainer, and front sight. Also you have to shorten the handguards, gas tube, and gas piston. AK pistols take alot more work to build than a rifle but they are fun to shoot

I got an underfolding AK from Atlantic a few years ago so if I ever get off my ass and buy an AK pistol it'll be from them.

Just sayin'

I got this one from century. It shoots well and is very cool. Little cheaper and the old saying about getting what you pay for is probably true. The guns at Atlantic are probably better but for a range toy mine is Ok.

Blast Attenuator Device?

Is that another name for the Krinkov(sic) style bellmouth flash hider/compensator?

The AK pistols require extensive re working to shorten the has system etc, the pistol pictured below also has custom made wood furniture to fit the short profile, all this adds time & money to the base cost, if you are looking for cheap then the Centiry guns would fit that bill, if you want nice fit & finish, good warranty etc you will pay $600- $900 depending on the bells n whistles

This rifle would be nice if you could add a shortened underfolder and have a mini underfolder...  as the gears in my mind begin to turn....
