i own i suppose nine or ten ARs, and and SKS or two, and a coupla AKs, so keep an eye on the AK and the AR portions of this site...and...the AK folks tend to shoot and shoot and shoot, with the biggest problem being cosmoline...the AR folks are ALWAYS grumping about cleaning, and FTE, and FTF, and WTF and on and on and on.....which says something about both systems. Granted, shooting an AK is like shooting a can opener, but they WORK, and nothing breaks.....I'm not about to see what an AK does at 300 yards against a tuned AR, but that's another story.

I'm sorry, were you asking a question or stating the obvious? Aks do need to be cleaned and lubed, but mostly against rust in those humid areas.

The reason for the durability is the sloppyness of the weapon. I made the mistake of using a thin grease on my AR's bolt carrier once. Can you say sludge. I have to say that my Aks do like Break Free.
