A picture would help.

It's a 84s-5a it has black pistol grip redish brown side folding stock and wood hand gaurd. It look's like the polytech s-2 but in 223.

It sounds like it does not have all the original furniture, or correct furniture anyway.  It's a preban and a fairly uncommon one, so it will be worth some bucks, but finding the correct parts to make it "right" again may not be very easy.  If you have any pics, you can go upload them on tinypic.com  (super easy and free) and post them here.  I would enjoy seeing what you have.

not all sidefolders with the red stock had red PG and HG's...I had a side folder form the factory with red SF stock wood grip and wood HG's right out of the box.  it was marked 56s-2

the main rule for chinese guns are...there are no rules!    I have had 56s with both type 1 and type 2 bayonet mounts...front sight hood  and "ears"  2 rivet trigger guards to 4 rivet trigger guards blonde wood, orange wood, brown wood and polytech color(what ever the F#*%) that is. they use whatever they had/have to build their guns.

In response to his original question, value?

Lack of mags for the 223 chinese AK's affects value to  me.

So, looking at current going prices for similar 762 ones, and adding in rarity, I think it puts the factors about even.

In Box, unfired, with all accessories, 1500 to 1700 dollars.

Rifle alone, with one mag, as new 1200 to 1300.

Used good condition, 1000 to 1100.

Beater, still worth 1000 if the stock and foregrips are in excellent condition.

Mags, you all know, 50 ish each, or more right now.
