To be clear it's not a Krebs product, it's done by Barrel Exchange not him.

I want though looks neat.

It won't.

I know the labor Troy puts into them to guarantee they function plus his base material costs is a standard 75 round drum.

Yeah, and as far as I know, this is the only drum for 5.45's...so you pretty much have to pay his price.

I guess I can technically own a 75 round drum in Ohio, but once I put it into my semi-auto rifle, the gun is classified as a "machine gun", so I won't be getting one anyway.

way too much IMO. I agree, he puts a lot of work into them. I know they start out as a quality drum etc...but if I ever pay that much for a mag, it will be an original quad stack 74 mag.

Until I own something that fires full auto all of these drums and quad stack mags are something that I refer to as "pointless."

anyone know what you have to do to mod one too work?

Definitely high on the "cool" factor.

But you could buy two 45-round magazines for $80 and, as long as you're willing to suffer the indignity of a 5-second mag change, have just as much (actually more) firepower for $220 less.  So, cool as it is, I don't really see the value in this drum.  It's an expensive novelty.

(I suppose in a combat situation those 5 seconds could be important.  But if you find yourself in that situation, you'll have bigger problems than simply not having a 75-round drum.)

I have a feeling the Russians thought along the same lines here.

So, what is the magic number of rounds in a magazine that you see a point to?  Two?  Five?  Ten?  Were you happy with your Clinton mags?

This is a great innovation and I wish nothing but the best for those responsible to bringing it to market.  I will be waiting until the price comes down before I purchase but I will keep an eye on these.

Meh.

At least on semi-auto rifles, drums are a heavy, unnecessary novelty.  While I could see the utility in a combat situation, most of us will never be in that situation.

So then you have to ask, “Does the drum solve a real problem?”  My answer to that would be “No.”  They might be “cool”, and they might impress your friends, but as a feeding device I don’t see them as particularly practical for most purposes.

As for “how many rounds is enough”, I suppose that’s a subjective question that has a lot to do with personal preference.  As a tactical matter, Peter Kokalis has often said that he believes 20-round magazines strike the perfect blend of capacity, weight and handling dynamics, and help ensure the best levels of firing discipline.  Sure, that’s just one person’s opinion, but I believe it to be an informed one.

As for this 5.45 drum, I’m all for innovation.  And I certainly hope it is a profitable endeavor for its creator.  I just don’t really see the need, and certainly don’t see the value.

Duuuuuuuuurrrr..

I'd get tired of firing semi auto long before I ever got anywhere close to firing off 75 rounds.

30 rounds is fine with me, and I rarely every even load that many rounds into them.

If I had a full auto, yeah I'd love to have a drum.  75 rounds of semi auto doesn't appeal to me at all.  Now if I could squeeze off 75 rounds in 7 good bursts, that would be a different story.
