Romy hi-cap conversion is the cheapest. Even the AMD-65 will cost you $400 or so by the time you get a builder to assemble it.

Isn't Aresenal supposed to be releasing a stamped gun for about $400 any old time now. I would imagine that that would be a hell of a gun for the money. If you are really that tightwadded, go with the WASR hicap, they are dirt cheap and are the cheapest around.
If you had gotten one of the AMD kits when they were sixty, you could have put a gun together for around two hundred bucks had you done it all yourself (that is using a complete reciever, assuming that you transfer dealer isn't a ass rapist like the ones around here). |

I do believe the least expensive hi-cap out there right now is the WASR10. Less than $300 in most areas. Lots of other stuff available, but a bit more spendy.

romanian wasr high capacity conversions start at $289 in my area gunshows.

I'm not a cheap bastard, it's just I don't want to throw a bunch of money into an AK. I can put together a kit myself, in fact, that's what I may end up doing. Although the Romos do seem attractively priced and I can probably do a few mods like add a slant brake, or folder or something like that.

The romanian guns function well but they are some of the roughest looking AK's out of the box. Although a wasr-10 with a simple furniture swap looks pretty good. Chinese guns tend to look better. Then the custom builds from ORF and such will look much better. But they will probably be out of your price range.
I may pick up a WASR-2 if they ever actually get into the country. Maybe Kerry is holding them back on his swift boat with his m16  ::::rolls eyes:::::

Wonder if the WASR-2's will have some evil features? WASR-2 (5.45) with a bayonet and a romanian side folder would be pretty cool.
