but i want to know--what is the easiest way to harden a receiver, and exactly what areas need to be hardend?

Yes, unless you have the capability to harden the whole receiver, but most of us just harden the axis pin holes.


Don't forget to harden the ejector too....

Home Depot sell a mapp gas and oxygen setup welding kit. You can make the flame pencil thin. My first build I did'nt harden the ejector good enough and it started mushrooming out. I used the thin flame to concentrate the heat to just the ejector, keeping warping to a minimum. The set-up was like $50 and worked great.
