Most people use either E. German parts or Bulgarian. One member here welded up his own from one of the neutered parts.

-GuNut-'s unbanned rifles, some of the pictures are gone but you get the idea of the parts he used.

I don't have links and can't remember who built up their own but they welded on a glob of metal and then I think hand filed the part. Lot of work.

Didn't a 56S look more like:

and be a Norinco import?

and the Polytechs from Kengs would have the underfolding bayonet FSB?

Keep searching gunbroker and make sure to look through ALL front bases for the AK. Someone may list one and not know that it's chicom. Also look through the AK Files and The AK Forum in their marketplace for them.

Also, if you find a preban 5.56 barrel assembly those parts will also fit your current barrel. But as others have said, Bulgarian and E. German AK-47 (not AKM) FSB's will fit, but won't be correct. Since it's a preban I'd hold out for the correct part.

An East German AK-47 front sight base will fit on a Chinese barrel, but it has no provision for a cleaning rod.

Soldiers issued the DDR's milled AK used a pull-through to clean the bore.

If that's really meant to be a question, then the answer is no, it's not an East German front sight base holding a cleaning rod.

There's an East German FSB at the bottom of this photo and a Hungarian one at the top. Pay close attention to the profiles.

Same arrangement in this photo; East German on the bottom. The bayonet shelf on the Hungarian is relieved to hold the cleaning rod head and notched to facilitate insertion and removal of the rod.

I can't tell from your photo what type of FSB you've got, but it's definitely not an East German AK-47 type.

It's not one I have. It was a question as it had a question mark It is one of several that another member here used to deban his MAK-90's that I linked above and he stated they were E. German.

Here's the link to his thread again stating the parts he claimed he used. His are milled out for a cleaning rod.

Are you trying to restore the original look, or simply trying to retain the cleaning rod?
If the latter, I think carlos C has developed a method that's simple and works.

I used a Polish model 1960 FSB on a mak that I debanned. It fit perfectly, and looks very close to the chinese fsb.

He said it was new, never drilled. Possible the cross pin holes aren't completely drilled through, also.
