i am in no way a pro shooter, nor even intermediate.  i would say better than beginner.  do yall think this scope would be of any use at all?  all i use my sks for is to mess around with out at the range, and i think the package is a good deal...most places charge $50 for just the scope and mount.  if not, what scope/mount do yall recommend?

Not that I'd recommend it, but if you absolutely must get a cheap receiver mount for your SKS, get the one with the set screws on it. None of these are all that great, but at least the screws give a tiny bit more stability.

Personally, if you're looking for an affordable way to improve the accuracy of your SKS, I'd get a fire sight set from Williams. Its less headache than the cheap scopes, looks better, and allows you to clean the rifle without losing your zero. Sportsmansguide.com has them for around $35. I do as well or better with it at 100yds than with the receiver mounted 4X32 scope.

That's the same scope mount i had and it was allright.

it sucks that you cant clean the rifle without losing zero though. So keep that in mind.

And lastly, the scope that comes with it is really terrible. Mine broke after about 3 months.

This is what you need:

Just arrived today. It's an InterOrdnance "Sniper" conversion. The whole package (unissued rifle, scope, mount, and gunsmithing) is $349. It's actually a fair price if you add everything up. I had to send the first one back though, because it wasn't unissued and had a dark bore. The bore on this one is perfect.

You can even still use strippers and clean the rifle without removing the scope:


If you know a compitant gunsmith I think they sell just the mount on their site. The scopes can get as cheap as $90 on ebay and elsewhere. They have a kick-ass illuminated reticle.

Just remember, the SKS is NOT a sniper rifle! I wouldn't be expecting 1/2" groups from an sks scope or not! Try pie plate sized at 100 yards! Why do you think it's hard to mount a scope on them hat) but I do consider it a bit overboard (DO NOT TAKE OFFENSE TO MY STATEMENT'S. IT IS JUST AN OPINION!)

Well, first of all you CAN get good groups from an SKS:

The one on the left was done with Brown Bear and the right was silver bear.


Those were at 50yds, but I can get FAR better than "pie plate" at 100yds with a Yugo! Of course, it won't group like a .50bmg, but it doesn't cost several thousand either!

As far as collectibility goes, I have no safe queens, but I think I've got it covered:

BTW, those groups were not with this rifle. They were with the middle rifle with one of those cheesy scope mounts like sa1126 was asking about. sa1126, you can get groups like this, but every time you take it to the range you spend some time re-zeroing it unless you get a more secure mount. I wouldn't worry too much about ruining collectibility, since there are so many of these in the country anyway. Just look at the Norincos which are no longer imported, but still go for around $175-$200. If you count for inflation, that isn't a lot more then they originally cost anyway.

That Inter ord scope looks like the best I've seen so far. Still I'll stay with my Williams sight and use the scope on something I can get match ammo for. IMHO
