im not a scope fan, even with my shitty vision. i plan to use iron sights as long as my eyes will let me. i was wondering if there were better iron sights that i could put on my Romanian SAR2 ?

ive seen mojo sights on certain milsurp rifles, but something ideal would be a peep sight that mounted to the receiver cover

any options ?

I've never used them, but I like the look of the Tech Sights. They don't mount to the receiver cover, but rather replace it with a unit that is more more reliable at returning to zero.

i just found these- Krebs iron sights-

not as long of a sight radius of the Tech Sights- but.... simpler.....

I've got one of these.  Pricey, but worth it to me.  It feels like a totally different rifle, as the old AK sights are practically unusuable for me.

Might be worth opening up the stock rear notch. I have a 1st gen Kreb peep that I am happy with  but, have been experimenting with trying to approximate what Rifle Dynamics does with modifying the stock sight. I snagged a 1/8th in. round file from the hardware store and carefully filed the notch and then rounded the outer edges of the blade with a larger bastard file. IIRC the RD folks do a 3/32nds cut on a mill so the readily available 1/8 file isn't too far off.

That Krebs sight looks beautiful, I have the same problem with eyesight and bought and installed a Mojo rear sight which seems to be the answer. As shown the Krebs likely uses the original ramp you run forward for more yard-elevation, my Mojo has a small flat wheel to do the same. I suspect that either can handle the job for us.

TWS rail comes with a rear peep too.  A bit pricey if you want only irons but the option to drop a red dot on and co-witness later is nice.

I put a KNS front sight post that's a little narrower than stock.  The original sight base was split with a die grinder and bent outwards to keep it from coming loose.  Romanian engineering at its best.  The KNS has a polymer insert in the threads to keep it tight.

I had a Mojo sight on a Bulgarian AK.

The hardest part was putting the new sight in.  There was a guy who used to post here called Campy Bob, who made an AK sight removal tool that he demoed in a video.  Anyone can do it without any special tools, but it can be a bit of wrestling match for a few minutes and a few swears.  I think the tool is like $25 on Brownells, so it's not worth it unless you do alot of AK work.

That's the way the Russians and Bulgarians still do it to this day. It's cheaper and quicker than any other method and works just as well. It works, it's quick, it's cheap. Engineering at it's best.
