has anyone ever done this to their ak? i have these ideas for a saiga-.308. id like to remove the front sight, add the clamp on sight from ace, cut the barrel from 22"-> 16.5", thread it and add a us made ak muzzle brake/flash suppressor. would it be ok to just time the threads and locktite or do i need to keep the front sight to have the retaining pin for the brake/fs? and would re-crowning the barrel do much to improve the accuracy? any info is appreciated. thanks in advance.

I have heard that one could use a marbel with rubbing/pollishing compound to crown the muzzle, I haven't tried it, yet, but if I do a project that requires chopping the barrell, then I will definatly try it.
PS, I heard this on the AR side, that guy said he heard it on FAL FILES, so I guess it's been done a few times.
